We looked at customer reviews on G2, TrustRadius, Capterra, GetApp, and Software Advice in March 2024. Tipalti customer reviews are generally positive across review sites. Users like Tipalti’s payment automation features, user-friendly interface, and customer service. However, customers also mention several issues with the platform, including a steep learning curve, slow or difficult implementations, and sync errors with ERPs and accounting system integrations.

However, Tipalti requires customers to pre-fund their payment account, a policy that was unpopular with several customers. One user simply stated their feelings in a single-line review: “Con: Having to fund our Tipalti account to pay vendors.”

Steep learning curve

While many users praised Tipalti’s ease of use, some complained that the platform could be difficult to navigate for some functions. “I found that Tipalti’s software could be difficult to navigate and manage,” one customer said, going on to say “The user interface was quite complex, and it could be hard to find the information you needed without an in-depth understanding of the product.”

Common complaints included:

  • Platform is hard to learn: Several customers complained that Tipalti has a steep learning curve. One user said “one of the things that I liked the least is its initial learning curve,” continuing to say they found the platform “a bit overwhelming. 
  • Limited customization and reporting options: Customers criticized Tipalti’s limited customization and reporting capabilities. In the words of one user, Tipalti provides “only a hand full of standard reports.”

Slow or difficult implementations

Several users reported slow or difficult implementation when they first started using Tipalti. Others found Tipalti’s interview too complex, especially during implementation. “(O)ne aspect I liked least was the complexity of the initial setup and configuration,” complained one user, going on to say Tipalti’s onboarding process took a significant amount of time and effort, some customization options were limited, and certain requirements had to be addressed through workarounds.

  • Complex onboarding process: Customers reported that Tipalti’s onboarding process could be complicated and consumed significant time and resources. One customer commented: “While Tipalti offers a robust set of features, it can be complex and overwhelming to set up and navigate.” They continued to say “Users may require significant training and support to utilize all of the platform’s capabilities, and the setup process can be time-consuming.” 
  • Difficulty navigating features: While customers described Tipalti’s interface as easy to use, many customers struggled to navigate its features. As one Tipalti user described: “it can take some time to understand all the functionalities and features available.”
  • Poor communication during onboarding: Tipalti’s onboarding is “…incomplete and long,” according to one customer, who continued “Service is terrible and takes weeks to resolve issues.” Other customers also reported difficult implementations where Tipalti’s customer support was less than helpful during onboarding.

Challenges integrating Tipalti with ERPs and accounting software

Some users said they had difficulty integrating Tipalti with ERPs and accounting systems, citing connectivity issues, sync errors, and problems transferring data. “We had a ton of issues with our connection between Teampay/Tipalti/Netsuite,” complained one customer, who concluded that Tipalti “definitely have not lived up to the promise” of a smooth integration.

Not able to have attachment for credit memos sync from Tipalti to Intacct.” Another customer commented“Integration with NetSuite could be improved. Even after 4 years, we run into at least one integration complication each month,” suggesting the integration problems have been around for a long time.
  • Sync errors: Some customers reported frequent sync errors between Tipalti and their ERP. For example, one user experiencing chronic sync issues with NetSuite said, “The biggest drawback from my experience with Tipalti came from its integration with Netsuite.” They complained that Tipalti “…constantly failed to sync billing PDFs with Netsuite which caused a lot of inconveniences.”
  • Data not transferring: Several users said Tipalti wasn’t transferring data to their ERP. “Implementation and integration with NetSuite had a lot of challenges.” said a customer experiencing trouble transferring data between Tipalti and NetSuite: “We still get random “false positive” sync errors that have to be resolved,” they continued. “For example, Tipalti collects all the tax documents and tax ID’s for new vendors, but this stays in Tipalti and does not sync over to NetSuite.”
